Sofas, armchairs, recliners, futons and upholstered dining chairs are all classed as domestic seating containing persistent organic pollutants, which means they must not be mixed with other waste and must be incinerated at an authorised facility rather than recycled or sent to landfill. That rule is why a skip firm will turn a sofa away, and why the van route exists.
On a collection the crew carries the sofa out of the room it sits in, loads it separately from the rest of the load and takes it to a licensed facility for the correct treatment. A single sofa up to 50kg is £40 inc VAT; a 3 seater, sofa bed or corner sofa counts as two items at £50. Mattresses are collected on the same visit at their own listed price.
Neath Port Talbot Council offers a bulky items collection at £29.50 for up to seven items, booked and paid online. Swansea Council charges £24 for one to three items or £48 for four to six, and Bridgend County Borough Council £36.12 for up to three items. All three are kerbside services: items go out the night before, and the crews do not enter the property. The Neath Port Talbot service is for residents only and is not available to landlords or for house clearances.
Our furniture removal is priced per item, £40 for one and £50 for two inc VAT, and the difference is where we collect from. The two-person crew takes the sofa from the lounge, the wardrobe from the back bedroom and the bed frame from upstairs, dismantling where needed, on a day agreed with you. We aim to collect within 48 hours of booking, and landlords and agents are welcome.
For a small number of items you are happy to carry to the kerb, the council service is good value. For anything heavy, upstairs or on a deadline, or where you are managing a let, a collection from the room is usually the easier answer.
Pieces in good condition are separated for reuse rather than disposal, and solid timber, metal frames and flat-pack boards are sorted for recycling at the facility. Upholstered seating is the exception, because the law requires it to be incinerated rather than recycled, and it travels on its own.
If a piece has clear resale value, set it aside before we arrive or offer it to a local charity first; once loaded, items are processed and cannot be returned. As a registered waste carrier with Natural Resources Wales we can provide a waste transfer note for the collection on request.
