Every load we collect goes to a licensed waste transfer station or disposal facility, never anywhere else. At loading the crew separates what can obviously be reused or recycled, such as metal, clean timber, cardboard and furniture in good condition, and the mixed remainder is sorted again at the facility before anything is sent for disposal. Landfill is the last resort rather than the default.
Some materials have their own legal routes and we follow them. Fridges and freezers go to an approved authorised treatment facility for degassing. Upholstered seating is kept apart and incinerated at an authorised facility because of the persistent organic pollutants it contains. Plasterboard must be kept separate from mixed waste by law, and mattresses are collected separately. None of that changes the price you are quoted; it changes where the van goes afterwards.
Householders in Wales have a legal duty of care to make sure their waste is only passed to an authorised person. If an unregistered collector fly-tips your rubbish, you can be fined even though someone else dumped it. The safeguard is simple: ask for the carrier's Natural Resources Wales registration number, check it on the NRW public register, ask where the waste is going and keep a receipt.
We are a registered waste carrier with Natural Resources Wales and our registration details are shown on this site for exactly that check. Every collection is documented, and a waste transfer note or receipt is available on request showing what was collected and where it went. Businesses are legally required to keep waste transfer notes for two years, so trade customers receive them as standard.
Neath Port Talbot Council runs the Briton Ferry recycling centre on Briton Ferry Industrial Estate, SA11 2HZ, open from 8.30am to 5pm seven days a week, and the Cymmer recycling centre on Margam Street, SA13 3EE. Residents must book a slot before every visit, vans and double-axle trailers need a permit limited to twelve a year, and some materials, including rubble, soil, green waste and plasterboard, are chargeable by weight. Lower Cwmtwrch, run by Powys, is also open to Neath Port Talbot residents. Swansea Council runs its own recycling centres for Swansea addresses.
The recycling centre is the right answer for a car boot of sorted waste and a free afternoon. A collection makes more sense when the volume runs to several trips, the items are heavy or upstairs, the household has no suitable vehicle, or the waste is from a business, which the council sites do not accept. We collect from the room or the yard, priced by volume, and aim to collect within 48 hours of booking.
