We bring man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT, skip hire, skip bags and wheelie bin hire to Gowerton and the villages on the road out to Gower, about 19 minutes and 13.8 miles from our yard at Jersey Marine. Vale Waste Neath is a family-run, registered waste carrier, and we aim to collect within 48 hours of booking.
Gowerton is a village of a little over 5,000 people in the SA4 postcode district, about 4 miles north-west of Swansea city centre, with Waunarlwydd to the east, Penclawdd to the west, Loughor to the north-west and Dunvant and Gorseinon close by. It sits in the City and County of Swansea, so Swansea Council sets the bin rules, the skip permit and the bulky collection fee, even though our yard is in Neath Port Talbot. It has its own community council and a railway station on the West Wales Line between Swansea and Llanelli.
We run the full service here. Man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT, where our crew carries everything out and does the loading; 4, 6 and 8 yard skips for refits, garden projects and building work; skip bags for the terraced streets around Sterry Road where a skip has nowhere to go; and 240, 660 and 1100 litre wheelie bins with scheduled collections for the shops, cafes and takeaways on the main street. House clearance and garden clearance are the two jobs that come up most often in a village of long-settled family homes, and both are priced by the load.
Every collection goes to licensed disposal and recycling facilities, and every job comes with the duty of care paperwork you would expect from a registered waste carrier.
We deliver three skip sizes to Gowerton. A 4 yard skip holds 40 to 50 bin bags and suits a small clearance, a garden project or a house with tight access. A 6 yard skip holds 60 to 70 bin bags and is the usual choice for a bathroom or kitchen refit. An 8 yard skip holds 70 to 80 bin bags for bigger renovations and bulky waste. Skip hire is quoted by the team on size, placement and how long you need it.
Where the skip goes decides the paperwork. On a private drive, and the cul-de-sac estates such as Elba Street and Llys Elba mostly have one, no permit is needed. On the public road, Swansea Council issues the skip permit: it costs £58, runs for 28 days, must be applied for at least 24 hours before the skip is placed, and is charged in full even if the skip goes after a week. The operator also has to carry public liability cover of at least £5 million. We can advise on the application when we confirm the hire.
A few things cannot go in a skip: fridges and freezers, mattresses, upholstered seating, tyres, paint and other hazardous waste, and plasterboard is kept separate. Tell us what you are clearing and we will suggest the compliant route for anything on that list.
Man and van is our load and go service: two of us arrive, carry the waste out from wherever it is, load the van and sweep up. Prices include VAT and are set by the volume we take away. A mattress on its own is £25, a single item such as a small sofa or an appliance is £40, two items are £50 and a fridge on its own is £40. Loose loads run from a 2 yard load at £50, roughly 20 bin bags, up to a 14 yard load at £220, which is about a small house or flat clearance. If the load comes in smaller on the day, you pay the smaller figure.
Swansea Council's bulky waste collection is £24 for one to three items or £48 for four to six, with six the maximum, booked and paid in advance and left at the kerb for the crew, usually on your normal collection day. Residents on certain benefits can have up to three collections of up to three items at half price in a 12 month period. For a couple of items you can carry to the kerb yourself, and a date that suits the council, it is good value.
For anything else, a private collection is the simpler route: mixed loads, more than six items, furniture that has to come down the stairs, garden and renovation waste in the same van, or a job that cannot wait for a booked council date. We do the lifting, we take everything in one visit, and we confirm the price before the van sets off. Nothing is paid online.
A skip bag is the answer for the older streets in the village. We deliver a heavy duty bag, you fill it at your own pace, and we collect it once it is full. A small bag is £65 inc VAT and takes a small declutter or DIY project; a medium bag is £95 inc VAT and takes a small bathroom rip-out or a garage clear-out. A bag needs no council permit and sits on a drive, forecourt or yard.
The terraces around Sterry Road, Mount Street and the station were built for the workers of the Elba steel and tinplate works, long before anyone thought about off-street parking. A bag on a small forecourt or in the back yard means no £58 permit and no argument about the parking, and it can be left for as long as the refit takes. On the newer estates with a drive, a bag is still the better option for a job that will not fill a 4 yard skip.
Bags cannot take hardcore or soil, mattresses, tyres or fridges. For rubble or turf, ask us about a skip or a loose loaded collection instead.
The nearest household recycling centre to Gowerton is Garngoch Recycling Centre on Phoenix Way, Garngoch Industrial Estate, Gorseinon, SA4 9WF. It opens 8.30am to 5pm seven days a week, closes at 1pm on Christmas Eve and all day on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and has a 2 metre height restriction at the entrance. It is for Swansea residents only, proof of address may be asked for, and trade waste is not accepted. Swansea Council also runs Llansamlet, Clyne, Penlan and Tir John; Llansamlet works on timed slots booked in advance, and the council operates a permit scheme for household vans and trailers with a limited number of visits a year. Booking and vehicle rules change, so check the council website before you set off.
A tip run makes sense for a boot load. It stops making sense when the job needs three trips, a hired van, or a vehicle that Garngoch will not let through the barrier, and it is not available at all for anything from a business. That is the ground we cover: mixed loads, van loads, heavy items and trade waste, collected from inside the property under our own registration and taken to licensed facilities. We do not tip at Garngoch.
If you are a landlord, a letting agent or a trader working in Gowerton, the council bulky service and the recycling centres are not open to you, and a registered carrier is the only lawful route for the waste.
Gowerton grew up around the railway in the 1850s and the Elba works, which began making steel and tinplate in about 1872 under Alfred Sterry and his partners and passed through Baldwins and then Richard Thomas and Baldwins. Sterry Road, the main shopping street, still carries his name and Morgans Terrace on it is one of the original rows. Those Victorian and Edwardian terraces produce a particular kind of waste: old kitchens and bathrooms coming out, lath and plaster, carpets and the contents of lofts that have not been touched for decades.
Around that older core are post-war and later cul-de-sac estates. Elba Street and Llys Elba are mixed detached, semi-detached and mid-terraced family homes, most with a drive, which makes them straightforward for a 4 to 8 yard skip or a garden clearance van. This is a village of long-settled owners rather than a student area, so the clearances we are asked for are probate and bereavement clearances, downsizing moves, the odd flat above a shop changing tenant and the periodic shed, loft and garage clear-outs that go with a family house.
Towards Penclawdd the village opens out to the Gower road, and the gardens grow with it. Hedge cuttings, felled shrubs, sheds, decking, fence panels and turf are loose loaded and priced by the volume we take away; soil and rubble go by skip. We carry from the back garden, so a narrow side passage is not a problem.
Sterry Road is the commercial heart of the village, with shops, cafes and takeaways at street level and flats above several of them. None of those businesses can use Garngoch, so each needs a registered carrier for its everyday waste and for the occasional refit. We supply 240, 660 and 1100 litre wheelie bins with weekly, fortnightly or monthly collections, and we clear shop-fits, refurbishments and one-off bulky items with a waste transfer note for every job.
There is no large industrial estate in Gowerton itself; the nearest trade estate is Garngoch in Gorseinon, which we also cover. For the village's schools, the rugby club and the sports fields around the Elba complex, where the 1980 National Eisteddfod was held, we can quote one-off clearances and event waste in the same way, though we make no claim to any existing arrangement with them.
