We provide skip hire, man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT, skip bags and house clearances across Swansea, from the SA1 city centre and Uplands to Sketty, Killay, Llansamlet and Fforestfach. Our yard at Jersey Marine is 4.3 miles and about 10 minutes from the city centre along Fabian Way, and we are a registered waste carrier with Natural Resources Wales.
Swansea is the second most populous authority in Wales, with 238,500 people at the 2021 census and postcode districts running from SA1 to SA9. It is also the nearest city to our yard: Jersey Marine sits about three miles east of Swansea on the A483 Fabian Way corridor, beside Crymlyn Burrows and next door to Swansea University's Bay Campus. Most of our vans pass the city boundary before they have warmed up, so Swansea is not a long-distance job for us; it is the other end of the road we live on.
Skip hire is the biggest search in Swansea and we supply 4, 6 and 8 yard skips to drives across the city. Man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT is the service most flats and terraces book, skip bags cover the streets in between, and wheelie bin hire with scheduled collections serves the businesses on the Enterprise Park, in Fforestfach and in the city centre. We deliver 4, 6 and 8 yard skips across Swansea. A 4 yard mini skip holds around 40 to 50 bin bags, right for a small garden project or a single-room refit. A 6 yard midi skip holds 60 to 70 bin bags and is the size most Swansea customers hire for a bathroom or kitchen strip-out. An 8 yard builders skip takes 70 to 80 bin bags of heavier renovation waste. Each is quoted to the job with delivery, collection and disposal included, and we will tell you plainly if a skip bag or a man and van load would do the job for less.
A skip on the public highway in Swansea needs a permit from Swansea Council. Each permit costs £58, is valid for 28 days and is charged in full even if the skip goes early. The council asks for the application at least 24 hours before the skip is placed and requires public liability insurance of at least £5 million from the skip operator. Skips on a private drive need no permit, which is why most of our Swansea skips go to Sketty, Killay, Morriston and the family estates rather than to the terraces of Brynmill and Uplands.
Every man and van price includes VAT, the labour and the disposal. A mattress on its own is £25, a single item such as a sofa or a washing machine is £40, a fridge or fridge freezer is £40 and two items together are £50. Loads then run from a 2 yard load at £50, about a large car boot, through the most booked 6 yard load at £110, to a 14 yard load at £220, which clears a small house or flat. Two of us carry everything out, including from upstairs flats and student houses with no lift.
Swansea Council's kerbside bulky waste collection is for residents only, booked and paid for in advance at £24 for one to three items or £48 for four to six items, the maximum. It is usually collected on your normal bin day and the council will not take more than two fridges or two mattresses from one property. If you need more than six items, want the waste carried out from inside, or need a particular date, a private collection is the alternative. People in Swansea search for a man with a van more than anywhere else we cover, and for the smaller loads that is exactly what turns up.
A skip bag, sometimes called a Hippo bag (a trademark), is a woven builders bag we drop off flat and collect when you say it is full. The small bag is £65 inc VAT and the medium £95 inc VAT, both with collection and disposal included. It needs no council permit because it sits on your own ground, and a filled bag fits a short drive, a front garden or the paved yard behind a terrace.
Swansea's late-Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Brynmill, Uplands, Mount Pleasant and Sandfields have narrow streets and very little off-street parking, so a skip means a £58 permit and a battle for the space. A skip bag needs neither, and it suits the 20th-century semis of Sketty, Killay and Morriston too, when a garage or garden is being cleared over a few weekends rather than one Saturday.
Swansea Council runs five household waste recycling centres, all open 8.30am to 5pm seven days a week: Llansamlet, Clyne, Garngoch, Penlan and Tir John. Llansamlet, on Ferryboat Close at Swansea Enterprise Park, SA6 8QN, requires a booked date and time slot and proof of a Swansea address; the council says no booking is needed at the other four. Llansamlet and Tir John in St Thomas are the two closest to our yard, both on the east side of the city, with Clyne on Derwen Fawr Road in Sketty serving the west.
Swansea Council also issues £300 fixed penalty notices to householders who hand their waste to someone without a waste carrier licence and then find it fly-tipped. That is the duty of care in practice: check the carrier before you pay, which is why we publish our registration and give a waste transfer note on request.
A tip run works for a boot of garden cuttings. For a sofa, a mattress, a bathroom suite or a garage of accumulated furniture, one booked collection from a registered carrier is simpler than a hired van, a Llansamlet slot and a Saturday morning.
Swansea had 1,848 licensed houses in multiple occupation on 23 August 2024, and Swansea University teaches 18,985 students, 15,000 of them undergraduates, split between the Singleton Park campus to the west of the centre and the Bay Campus on Fabian Way, which sits beside Jersey Marine beach a few hundred yards from our gate. Every summer, between June and September, landlords and letting agents in Brynmill, Uplands, Mount Pleasant and Sandfields need rooms emptied before the next intake.
We clear student houses and HMOs from top to bottom: mattresses, broken furniture, abandoned white goods and the black bags left behind. Agents can hand us keys, we send photographs before and after, and each job comes with a waste transfer note for the file. The same service covers end-of-tenancy and bereavement clearances in the SA1 waterfront flats, where the lift and stairs rule out a skip altogether.
The SA1 waterfront and Maritime Quarter are mostly modern one and two bedroom leasehold flats, and the city centre, Wind Street and Parc Tawe carry a dense mix of hospitality, retail and offices. Those premises book cardboard collections, shop and bar refits, office clearances and scheduled 240, 660 or 1100 litre wheelie bins from us, with the collection day fixed around their trading hours.
Swansea Enterprise Park at Llansamlet, the Fforestfach trade and retail area and the Morfa retail park by the stadium are where the industrial and trade units are. One-off clearances, strip-outs and regular commercial waste collection all run out of Jersey Marine, which is a few minutes from the Enterprise Park along the A483 and A48. Every commercial collection carries duty of care paperwork.
The city centre is 4.3 miles and about 10 minutes from the yard along Fabian Way. Llansamlet and Birchgrove are closer still, Morriston is about 11 minutes and the western suburbs from Sketty to Mumbles are within about 20 to 25 minutes off-peak. We cover every district from SA1 to SA7.
