Morriston sits in the City and County of Swansea, north of the city centre along Neath Road, and its waste rules are set by Swansea Council rather than Neath Port Talbot. We work the whole SA6 district: the shopping streets around Morriston Cross and Woodfield Street, the Clase estate, the northern neighbourhoods of Cwmrhydyceirw, Pantlasau and Parc Gwernfadog, Ynysforgan and Ynystawe by the M4, and Llansamlet and the Swansea Enterprise Park to the east.

We hire three sizes in Morriston. A 4 yard skip holds roughly 40 to 50 bin bags and suits a small clearance, a garden project or a tight drive. A 6 yard skip takes 60 to 70 bin bags and is our most hired size for bathroom and kitchen refits. An 8 yard skip holds 70 to 80 bin bags for bigger renovations, bulky waste and commercial works. Skips are quoted rather than priced online, so ask us for a figure that includes delivery, collection and disposal.
Where the skip goes matters in Morriston. The post-war semi-detached homes of Cwmrhydyceirw, Pantlasau, Parc Gwernfadog and Ynysforgan mostly have drives and garages, so a skip can sit on private ground with no permit. The older terraces around Woodfield Street, Vicarage Road and Clase Road have narrow frontages, rear lanes and on-street parking, so a skip there usually has to go on the highway. A skip on the public road needs a permit from Swansea Council, currently £58 for 28 days, applied for at least 24 hours before placement with £5 million public liability insurance. A few things cannot go in a skip: plasterboard must be kept separate by law, upholstered seating such as sofas and armchairs travels by van, and fridges, tyres, paint and gas bottles are excluded. If your load is mostly those items, a man and van collection is the better fit.
Our load ladder is published in full and every figure includes VAT. A single item such as a small sofa or appliance is £40, two items are £50, a mattress on its own is £25 and a fridge on its own is £40. Volume loads run from a 2 yard load at £50, about 20 bin bags, up to a 14 yard load at £220, which is a small house or flat clearance. If the load comes in smaller on the day, you pay the smaller figure.
Swansea Council runs a bulky waste collection for Morriston residents at £24 for 1 to 3 items or £48 for 4 to 6 items, booked and paid in advance, with items left at the kerbside for collection on your usual collection day. It is a fair service for a bed frame or a wardrobe left at the front. Our crew does something different: we come into the house, carry from the loft, the cellar or the back bedroom, take mixed loads that include DIY waste, garden waste and bagged rubbish, and clear in one visit.
The nineteenth-century terraces around Morriston Cross are the classic man with a van job: a corner sofa that has to come out through the front door, a loft full of boxes above a narrow staircase, or a cellar clear-out with no vehicle access at the rear. Morriston's central grid of terraces, laid out with narrow frontages and rear lanes, has very few drives and a lot of parked cars. A skip bag sits on a front yard, a lane or a small patch of drive with no council permit, and you fill it at your own pace. When it is full, tell us and we collect it with the van and lifting gear.
Bags are also popular with landlords turning round flats and rooms in the Clase estate and around the hospital, where a full skip would be too much and a single collection needs to happen between tenancies. Bags follow the same exclusions as skips, so keep plasterboard and upholstered seating out and ask us about those separately.
Swansea Council collects a maximum of 3 black bags per household per fortnight in Morriston, each under 15 kg. Garden waste goes in council-issued reusable white bags, up to 10 per collection. Anything left after a clear-out, a hedge cut or a house move quickly goes beyond those limits, and side waste left next to the bags will not be taken.
The nearest household waste recycling centre is Llansamlet Household Waste Recycling Centre on Ferryboat Close, Swansea Enterprise Park, SA6 8QN. It is open seven days a week from 8.30am to 5pm, you must book a time slot in advance, and it is for Swansea residents only. Vans and trailers need a residents' permit, limited to 12 visits in 12 months, and vans are accepted only at Llansamlet and Clyne. Swansea's other sites are Clyne in Sketty, Garngoch at Gorseinon, Penlan and Tir John. Charges apply for some heavy DIY waste at the weighbridge, so check the current rates on the council website.
A tip run works for a boot full of garden cuttings. It stops working when you have no van, the load is heavy, the slot is days away or the items are excluded. A collection from us takes the lifting, the driving and the sorting off your hands, and because we are a registered waste carrier the duty of care for that waste is covered.
Morriston's housing is unusually varied for one community. The central streets around Woodfield Street, Neath Road, Vicarage Road and Clase Road are two-storey Pennant sandstone terraces from the early industrial years, with lofts, cellars and rear lanes. To the north, Cwmrhydyceirw, Pantlasau, Gwernfadog and Ynysforgan are mostly post-war private semis with drives and garages. Ynystawe along Clydach Road is semi-rural, with larger nineteenth-century villas and bigger plots. Clase, with its numbered Avenues, is a large mid-century council estate, and new social-rent homes are going up around the community.
Each type brings its own job. The terraces give us single-item and loft clearances with awkward access. The semis give us garage clear-outs, kitchen and bathroom refits that fill a 6 yard skip, and shed and decking removals. The villas at Ynystawe produce serious garden clearances. Across Clase and the newer estates, housing associations and private landlords ask us for void clearances between tenancies, with photographs before and after and a waste transfer note for the file.
Whole house clearances, whether for downsizing or a sale, are quoted from photographs and cleared in one or two visits. We separate furniture in good condition for reuse where we can, and everything else goes to licensed disposal facilities.
Swansea Enterprise Park straddles the Llansamlet and Morriston wards and is one of the biggest concentrations of business premises in the region, from the retail park and the supermarkets on Clase Road to workshops at Wyndham Court Industrial Estate and Lion Way Business Park. On Woodfield Street, the cafes, pubs and shops between Morriston Cross and Tabernacle Chapel have little rear access and short delivery windows.
