Skewen sits in the Coedffranc community of Neath Port Talbot, in the SA10 postcode district, with New Road as its spine and Neath Abbey, Llandarcy and Jersey Marine on its doorstep. Our man and van rubbish removal service is the one most Skewen customers book. A single item is £40, two items are £50 and a mattress on its own is £25, with a fridge or fridge freezer at £40. Loads run in steps from a 2 yard load at £50, roughly a 4x4 boot full, up to a 14 yard load at £220, about the size of a small house or flat clearance. Every price includes VAT and the loading, and there are no hidden extras.
Neath Port Talbot Council runs a bulky items collection at £29.50 for up to 7 items, booked and paid in advance. It is kerbside only, the crews do not enter the property, items have to be out the night before and collections run from 6am to 2pm. The council will not take garden waste, sheds, fence panels, bags of rubbish or building waste, and the service cannot be used for house clearances or by landlords.

Skip bags, sometimes called a Hippo bag (a trademark), are the practical choice for the terraced rows of Skewen where there is no drive and no room for a skip on a narrow street. A small skip bag is £65 inc VAT and a medium skip bag is £95 inc VAT, delivered flat, filled at your own pace and collected when you call.
A bag needs no council permit because it sits on your own land, whether that is a front garden, a back lane gateway or the drive of a semi on Bay View Gardens. Neath Port Talbot Council collects recycling weekly with no limit, but residual refuse is fortnightly and limited to one wheelie bin or three black bags. Side waste is not collected under the council's excess waste restriction, so extra bags are left behind unless the household is on the exemption scheme. Garden waste goes in council green sacks on a fortnightly round.
The nearest recycling centre to Skewen is Briton Ferry Recycling Centre, Briton Ferry Industrial Estate, SA11 2HZ, open 8.30am to 5pm seven days a week and closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. You must book a slot before visiting. Vans, pick-ups and double-axle trailers need a permit, limited to 12 a year, and tipper and flatbed vans are not allowed on site. Three sacks of building-type waste per household per week are free, and anything beyond that is weighed and charged, card only.
For a car boot of recycling the tip run works well. For a renovation, a garden clearance or a full house, the booking, the permit count and the weighbridge fees add up, and a single collection from us is usually simpler.

Our vans leave for Skewen up the B4290 through Jersey Marine towards Llandarcy, or along Fabian Way to the A465 Skewen exit, and either way we are on New Road in about 9 minutes. The housing here is mixed, which shapes the work we do. Semi-detached homes are the most common type in the centre of the village, around a quarter of the stock is social housing from the post-war years, there are older terraces along the Tennant Canal and River Clydach corridor where the flood alleviation scheme runs, and there are flats above the New Road shops. That means end-of-tenancy loads, bereavement house clearances, kitchen and bathroom strip-outs, and shed and garden clearances on the estate plots.
Coed Darcy, the urban village on the former Llandarcy oil refinery site, brings new-build snagging and landscaping waste. No. Vale Waste Neath is a private, family-run, licensed waste carrier registered with Natural Resources Wales. We are not Neath Port Talbot Council and we do not run the bin rounds, so we cannot tell you your bin day or change a missed collection.
