Maesteg is a former coal and steel town at the head of the Llynfi Valley, with dense Victorian and early twentieth-century terraces climbing the valley sides, a town centre on Commercial Street and Llynfi Road with flats above the shops, and the Grade II listed Town Hall of 1881 reopened in November 2024 after its redevelopment with Awen Cultural Trust. The housing is mostly small terraces, with a notable private-rented element in the centre, and that shapes the jobs we are asked to do across CF34.
Terrace loft and cellar clear-outs, sofas and mattresses carried out of narrow streets, garden waste from steep valley-side plots, and tenancy-end clearances for private lets and flats above the shops are the everyday work. Maesteg is in Bridgend County Borough, not Neath Port Talbot, so a skip on the public road needs a permit from Bridgend County Borough Council. A skip on your own drive needs no permit.

Our man and van service is priced by the load and every figure includes VAT and the labour. A single item such as a small sofa or an appliance is £40. A mattress on its own is £25 and a fridge on its own is £40. Bridgend County Borough Council's bulky waste collection is the local comparison. The council charges £36.12 for up to three items and £6.78 for each extra item, up to a maximum of 15, booked online by postcode and carried out by its contractor Plan B, who confirm the date by email or phone. It collects sofas, chairs, tables, carpets, beds, mattresses, white goods, televisions and garden benches. It will not collect bathroom suites or tiles, boilers, radiators, fencing, garage doors, gates, laminate flooring, rubble or hardcore, green waste or garden sheds, and kitchen units, worktops and loose waste need an assessment with a minimum charge of £25.
If your items fit those rules and a council date suits, use it. If you have a mixed load, anything on the exclusion list, or a whole property to empty, we take everything in one visit and aim to collect within 48 hours of booking.
A skip bag is the middle option for a Maesteg terrace: too much for a couple of van trips, no room or no permit for a skip. We deliver the bag, you fill it in your own time, and we collect it when you call. A small bag is £65 inc VAT and a medium bag is £95 inc VAT, collection included, and no permit is needed because the bag sits on your own ground.
That can be a short front, a side alley or a yard at the back of a terrace in Nantyffyllon, Caerau or Garth. Skip bags also suit landlords turning around a flat on Commercial Street, where the old carpet and furniture need somewhere to go while the work carries on.
Maesteg has one of Bridgend's three community recycling centres. Maesteg Community Recycling Centre is on Heol Ty Gwyn Industrial Estate CF34 0BQ, open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.30am to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8.30am to 5pm. It is closed on Thursdays. Vans and pick-ups must register for a tipping permit before visiting, larger trailers also need a permit, and trade waste is not accepted. There is a reuse shop on the same estate. The county's other centres are at Tythegston and Brynmenyn.
For a car boot of sorted household waste on a day the centre is open, the tip is the sensible first choice. The difficulties start when the load will not fit in a car, when it is a Thursday, when a van needs a permit, or when the waste comes from a business, which the centre will not take at all.
We handle all of those cases: we bring the van, load it ourselves, take household and trade waste alike, and issue a waste transfer note so the paperwork is in order.
The biggest change coming to Maesteg is the former Revlon and Cooper Standard site off Ewenny Road, empty for more than 12 years and now approved for a £41.8 million scheme of 192 homes by Sylfaen with Tai Derw, with work due to start on site in October 2026. Around it sit the Ewenny Road depots and builders' merchants, and Heol Ty Gwyn Industrial Estate with the Llynfi Enterprise Centre and the recycling centre.
Building activity brings builders, landlords and fit-out trades, and the recycling centre refuses trade waste, so every business in the valley needs a registered carrier. We supply 240, 660 and 1100 litre wheelie bins on a scheduled collection for units and shops, clear whole units and offices as a one-off, and take plasterboard, strip-out waste and renovation waste from trade jobs with a waste transfer note for every load.
Bridgend County Borough recorded 1,510 fly-tipping incidents in 2023 to 2024, and in June 2025 the council ran a collaborative clean-up of a Maesteg town centre lane prone to anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping alongside Noddfa Youth and Community Group. Valley lanes and trails are easy targets for anyone with a cheap van and no intention of paying to dispose of a load properly.
Householders have a legal duty of care for their waste. If you hand it to an unregistered collector who dumps it, you can be held responsible. From Jersey Marine the run to Maesteg is 12.1 miles and about 24 minutes off peak, either over from the Afan Valley or along the M4 and up the A4063 through Tondu, depending on where else we are that day.
