Margam is a village and community of Port Talbot in Neath Port Talbot, sitting between the A48, the M4 and the 850 acres of Margam Country Park, with Taibach running along the main road towards the town. It has no high street or retail park of its own; it is a residential suburb with the steelworks on one side and the park on the other. The work we do here is domestic first: sofas and mattresses out of terraces, garden clearances on the park side, house clearances for families and landlords, and the odd trade collection from the businesses on the fringe of the works.
We cover it with four services. Man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT, loaded by us from wherever the items are; 4, 6 and 8 yard skip hire for renovation and building waste; skip bags from £65 inc VAT where a skip will not fit; and 240, 660 and 1100 litre wheelie bin hire for businesses. Every price includes VAT and is agreed before we start.
We deliver 4, 6 and 8 yard skips across Margam, Taibach and the rest of SA13. A 4 yard skip holds roughly 40 to 50 bin bags and suits a bathroom rip-out or a small garden project. A 6 yard skip takes 60 to 70 bin bags and is our most hired size for a kitchen refit. An 8 yard skip holds 70 to 80 bin bags for a bigger renovation or a garden and garage cleared together.
Margam is in Neath Port Talbot, so a skip on the public road needs a permit from Neath Port Talbot Council. The current fee is £59 for 28 days, applications are typically processed within three to five working days, and each location is inspected. A skip on your own drive needs no permit, which makes the driveways on the park side of the village the easiest place for one to go.
Where a terrace has no room for a skip and the road is the only option, we will tell you honestly whether a skip bag or a man and van visit would serve you better and cost less than a permitted skip.
Our man and van service is priced by the load and every figure includes VAT and the labour. A single item such as a small sofa or an appliance is £40. A mattress on its own is £25 and a fridge on its own is £40. Loads then run from a 2 yard load at £50, about a 4x4 boot full, through a 6 yard load at £110 and an 8 yard load at £130, up to a 14 yard load at £220 for a small house or flat clearance. We load from inside the house, through the rear lane or from the garden; there is nothing to drag to the kerb.
Neath Port Talbot Council's bulky items collection is the comparison most Margam households make. The council charges £29.50 for up to seven items, paid in advance and booked online, with collections starting from 6am until 2pm and items left at the kerb the night before. Crews cannot enter the property. The service collects furniture, televisions, large electricals, carpets, washing machines, fridges and dismantled play equipment, but not garden waste, sheds, fence panels, bags of rubbish, mirrors, building waste, toilets, baths, tiles, pallets or paint tins, and the council states it cannot be used for house clearances and is not offered to businesses or landlords.
If your items fit those rules and a council date suits, it is good value. If you have a full clearance, a landlord turnaround, garden waste or anything on the exclusion list, we are the private alternative, and we aim to collect within 48 hours of booking.
A skip bag is the option when a job is too big for the car but the drive is too short for a skip, or when the only place a skip could go is the road. We deliver the bag, you fill it in your own time, and we collect it when you call. A small bag is £65 inc VAT and a medium bag is £95 inc VAT, collection included, and no permit is needed because the bag stays on your own ground.
In Margam and Taibach that means a short front on the main road, a rear yard off the lane, or a corner of a park-side drive during a garden project. Skip bags also suit landlords between tenancies, where the old carpet, furniture and bagged rubbish need somewhere to go while the flat is redecorated.
Neath Port Talbot Council runs three recycling centres, Briton Ferry, Cymmer and Lower Cwmtwrch, and you must book a slot before visiting any of them. For Margam the practical choice is Briton Ferry, on Briton Ferry Industrial Estate SA11 2HZ, open 8.30am to 5pm seven days a week with a reuse shop on site. Cymmer Recycling Centre is on Margam Street SA13 3EE, open 11am to 5pm seven days, but despite the street name it is in Cymmer in the Afan Valley, well up from Margam village.
Vans, pick-ups and double-axle trailers need a permit, issued automatically when you book, and residents are allowed a maximum of 12 permits a year. Tipper, flatbed and large 7.5 tonne vans are not allowed on site, and trade waste is not accepted. Cymmer takes up to three sacks of building-type waste a week free of charge.
The council's fortnightly refuse rule also limits what goes out at the kerb; check the Neath Port Talbot Council website for the current side-waste rule. When the tip has no slot, the van you hired is the wrong sort, or the load is simply more than a car can carry, we bring the van and take it all in one visit.
Margam Country Park's 850 acres hold Margam Castle, the nineteenth-century mansion, the Margam Stones Museum and the eighteenth-century Orangery, and Anthony Hopkins was born in the village. Its neighbour is the steelworks, once Europe's largest with a peak of 18,000 workers in the 1960s. Tata closed the last blast furnace in October 2024, around 2,000 employees remain processing imported steel slabs, and a £1.25 billion electric arc furnace is due to be operational in late 2027.
The village of Groes, built in the 1830s, was demolished in 1976 to make way for the M4, and its octagonal Beulah Chapel of 1838 was dismantled and rebuilt in Tollgate Park, where it stands today. That motorway is why we are so close: Margam is 8.7 miles and about 13 minutes from our yard.
The steelworks transition brings small trades, landlords and contractors to the area, and Neath Port Talbot Council reminds businesses that they have a legal duty to dispose of waste responsibly. We supply 240, 660 and 1100 litre wheelie bins on a scheduled collection, clear units and yards as a one-off, and issue a waste transfer note with every commercial collection.
