We provide skip hire, man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT, skip bags and wheelie bin hire across Port Talbot, Baglan, Aberavon, Sandfields and Taibach. Our yard at Jersey Marine is 5.7 miles and about 8 minutes away along the A483 and M4, and we are a registered waste carrier with Natural Resources Wales.
Port Talbot sits on the east side of Swansea Bay, about eight miles from Swansea and a short run down the M4 from our yard at Jersey Marine, junction 42 to junction 41 and the A48 into town. It is the second of the two towns in our home county, and with a population of about 31,550 across the SA12 and SA13 postcode districts it gives us a steady round of work every week. The council that matters here is Neath Port Talbot Council, whatever some competitor pages say.
Skip hire is the service Port Talbot searches for most, and we supply 4, 6 and 8 yard skips to drives and forecourts across the town. Man and van rubbish removal from £25 inc VAT is the answer for the terraced streets where a skip will not fit, skip bags cover the middle ground, and wheelie bin hire with a scheduled collection serves the shops on Station Road and the units at Baglan. Whole-house and bereavement clearances are quoted separately, and we aim to collect within 48 hours of booking.
Our 4 yard skip, the mini skip, holds about 40 to 50 bin bags and suits a bathroom refit in a Taibach terrace or a small garden clear. The 6 yard midi skip holds 60 to 70 bin bags and is the size most Port Talbot customers hire for a kitchen or a full garage. The 8 yard builders skip takes 70 to 80 bin bags and is the one for a Baglan garden and garage clear-out in one hit or a larger renovation. All three are quoted to the job with delivery, collection and disposal included.
A skip on the public road anywhere in Port Talbot needs a permit from Neath Port Talbot Council. The fee is £59 for 28 days, applications are typically processed within three to five working days, and the council inspects each location. Skips on a private drive or forecourt need no permit. That distinction matters here because the Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre, Aberavon and Commercial Road in Taibach were built with small frontages and rear lanes rather than drives, while the post-war semis in Sandfields, Margam and Baglan usually have room off the road.
Man and van rubbish removal is priced by volume and every figure includes VAT, the loading and the disposal. A mattress alone is £25, a single item such as a sofa or washing machine is £40, a fridge or fridge freezer is £40 and two items together are £50. Loads then step from a 2 yard load at £50 through the most booked 6 yard load at £110 to a 14 yard load at £220, which clears a small house or flat. Two of us do the lifting, from any room, the garden or the garage.
Neath Port Talbot Council offers a bulky items collection at £29.50 for up to seven items, booked and paid online in advance, collected from the kerbside between 6am and 2pm with the items put out the night before. The crews do not enter the property, the service is for domestic residents only, and it is not available to landlords or businesses or for house clearances and building waste. Garden waste, sheds, fence panels, rubble, windows, doors, baths, mirrors, paint tins and bags of rubbish are all excluded.
So if you have a few pieces of furniture and can wait for a council slot, book the council. If you want the lot gone from inside a Sandfields semi or an Aberavon terrace on a day that suits you, including the items the council refuses, ring us. People still call it a man with a van; for the bigger loads it is a tipper and two people.
A skip bag, sometimes called a Hippo bag (a trademark), is delivered flat, filled by you and collected by our van. The small bag is £65 inc VAT and the medium is £95 inc VAT, with collection and disposal included in both. No permit is needed because the bag sits on your own ground, and a full bag fits on a short drive, in a front garden or a rear yard.
For the terraced streets of Aberavon, Taibach and the town centre, where a skip would need a £59 permit and would take a parking space from a neighbour, a skip bag is usually the right call. It also suits the older streets of Velindre and the seafront end of Sandfields, where a car-sized space is easier to find than a skip-sized one. Fill it over a weekend or a fortnight and tell us when it is ready.
The nearest household waste recycling centre to Port Talbot is Briton Ferry Recycling Centre on Briton Ferry Industrial Estate, SA11 2HZ, a few minutes up the A48. It opens 8.30am to 5pm seven days a week, closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and you must book a slot before visiting. Vans, pick-ups and double-axle trailers need a permit, issued automatically with the booking and limited to 12 a year per household; tipper and flatbed vans and large 7.5 tonne vans are not allowed on site, and trade waste is not accepted.
Households can tip up to three sacks of building-type waste a week for free, after which the weighbridge charges by the tonne, and payment is card only. Cymmer Recycling Centre on Margam Street, SA13 3EE, opens 11am to 5pm daily and serves the Afan Valley side of the borough. The council also restricts the excess black-bag waste it takes beside the wheelie bin and does not collect side waste; check the council website for the current allowance.
A tip run is fine for a boot of hedge trimmings. For a bathroom suite, a shed, a run of fence panels or anything that would need three trips and a hired van, one booked collection from us is simpler, and the waste leaves with a registered carrier.
The Sandfields estate was built between 1947 and 1955 for steelworkers, mainly semi-detached houses, about 3,000 homes of which around 1,800 were owned by a social housing provider in 2017. Void clearances, end-of-tenancy clear-outs and bulky furniture collections from Sandfields make up a regular share of our Port Talbot diary, and we work with housing providers and letting agents as readily as with owner-occupiers.
The older stock around the town centre, Aberavon and Taibach is Victorian and Edwardian terracing, two storeys with small frontages and rear lanes. Bereavement and whole-house clearances there call for careful hand-loading through the front door or the lane, and our man and van service is built for exactly that. Margam and Taibach's mid-century semis, the hillside homes of Baglan and the newer housing at Baglan Moors and Harbourside tend to book garden clearances, garage clear-outs and renovation waste on a driveway skip.
Port Talbot Steelworks is the largest steelworks in the United Kingdom and dominates the east of the town. Blast Furnace 4 closed on 30 September 2024, ending more than a century of primary steelmaking, and an electric arc furnace is due to open by the end of 2027. The town's economy is changing, and the businesses at Baglan Energy Park between junctions 41 and 42 of the M4, Baglan Industrial Park, Kenfig Industrial Estate near junction 38, the docks and Harbourside are where most of our commercial clearances, strip-outs and wheelie bin rounds happen.
In the town centre, the traders in the Aberafan Shopping Centre and along the pedestrianised Station Road and High Street book cardboard collections, shop refits and scheduled 240, 660 and 1100 litre bins. Every commercial job comes with duty of care paperwork and a waste transfer note.
From Jersey Marine the Civic Centre is 5.7 miles and about 8 minutes off-peak via junctions 42 and 41 of the M4. Baglan and Taibach are inside ten minutes, and the whole of SA12 and SA13 is within a quarter of an hour, with Briton Ferry and Jersey Marine on the way.
